Irmo joins the 20th Century
We’ve lived in a number of backward places in the South over the years, but South Carolina has taken the cake for some time. More often than not, it was because of asinine “blue laws.” Because, shit, if you can’t get the people into your church, you should legislate your church’s positions into law, right?
Damn.
Anyway, Columbia proper decided to roll with sanity and legalized the sale of beer and wine on Sunday last year. It took until this year for Irmo to put the damn the thing on the ballot, much less for it to win.
“Oh, noes! People will be able to drink on a Sunday! WHAT WILL AL DAVIS THINK?!?”
For Irmo booze sales, this is how it looks to us:
71.8 percent in favor
27.7 percent against
Commerce über alles.
