Jenny Sanford endorses Haley
In a move that’s likely to surprise exactly nobody, S.C. First Lady Jenny Sanford endorsed Rep. Nikki Haley for governor, sending out a news release letter to local media detailing her decision. Haley’s been considered the “Sanford candidate” from the outset, and has worked to ingratiate herself with Gov. Mark Sanford’s third-party groups since she was elected.
The announcement comes, not surprisingly, before a fundraiser in Charleston.
On another note, when the hell are political reporters in this state call Jenny Sanford’s missives what they are — news releases? What, is she actually sending these things in stamped envelopes, or on heavy paper? Are they written in the same format as the little helper paper clip in Word would suggest? It seems to us that the legendarily toothless journocracy in the Palmetto State is treating her softly because her husband is a jackass. A political actor is a political actor, no matter what’s happened before, and should be treated accordingly.
In other blinding flashes of the obvious, the South Carolina leadership of teabaggery endorsed Sen. Larry Grooms in his gubernatorial run. To the best of our knowledge, it seems like Grooms has been to just about every tea party event in the state.
