He stoops to pander

mcmpanderAtty. Gen. Henry McMaster wants you to know he values your religious beliefs, especially when they’re involved with government, and he’s released a video to say so.

If you’re Christian.

There are few things more despicable than when politicians blatantly pander by using religion. If Jesus came back, the Prince of Peace would take these guys out to the woodshed and beat the Holy Ghost out of them. Of course, McMaster doesn’t think so, releasing a Web video in which he goes directly after the Christian base of the S.C. Republican Party. Lt. Gov. André Bauer has been courting religious conservatives for a while now, and U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett has nailed down the fiscal conservatives, so Henry Mac shot for the low-hanging fruit to try to peel one group away.

Really — if you read between the lines at the open of the video, he basically says, “I protected Jesus Christ from witches and those heathen yankee atheists at the ACLU.” Don’t know how to tell you this Henry, but Jesus doesn’t need your protection. Once you get crucified and rise from the dead, you’ve pretty much earned your “can’t be fucked with” card.

What’s next? A video saying, “Those queers aren’t going to get equal benefits on my watch!” Oh.

As your attorney general, I’ve fought to protect the sanctity of life, traditional marriage, and your right to express your faith publicly.

Well, there’s that. Somebody give this man decent consultants, because it’s a comedy of errors over there.

*For those who got the reference in the post title, congrats. You’re probably a heathen yankee atheist who likes watching 300-year-old plays.
