Lookin that way to me BBWolfe, Labor is the most expensive item in any project. Volunteers don’t cost anything. Ten hours of knocking on doors is worth many dollars in donations if the goal is really to get Democrats elected.

In my first encounter with the local democratic party the first words I heard were about “who’s ass was blackest”….

Explain how we “disenfranchised’ anyone with this rule:

SECTION 1. Section 7-13-710 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 459 of 1996, is further amended to read:
“Section 7-13-710.
(A) When a person presents himself to vote, he shall produce a valid and current:
(1) South Carolina driver’s license; or
(2) other form of identification containing a photograph issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles; or (The card is free for voting aged citizens)
(3) passport; or
(4) military identification containing a photograph issued by the federal government; or
(5) employee identification card containing a photograph of the voter, which is issued by the federal government, this State, or a political subdivision of this State; or
(6) South Carolina voter registration card containing a photograph of the voter pursuant to Section 7-5-675.

I challenge you assertion that the are 178,000 voting aged citizens in SC without at least one of the six forms of ID permissable.

As for card check – who supports it? Unions and union sycophants are the supporters. Why? Power and money – not for the worker, but for the union.

“I don’t know of anything more basic to the essence of our nation than the right to a secret ballot election.” Except when the state legislators are going to disenfranchise 178,000 South Carolinians by requiring a photo ID to vote and won’t even consider requiring a paper trail with e-voting.
In regard to card check, it is already the first step in organizing a union. Card check is a confidential card that a worker signs to authorize a union to represent them in the workplace. Currently if over 50% of workers sign a union authorization card, the cards are presented to the NLRB and employer. At that time, the employer could accept the union w/o an election, however, that is rarely done. With the EFCA (Employee Free Choice Act), the choice of an election is with the employee instead of employer. The employees would still have the option. Would the employees ask for an election? Probably not, an election to gives the employer more time to intimidate workers against unionization. According to studies: companies – 1) 30% fire pro-union workers 2) 91% hold “captive audience” anti-union mtgs. 3) 51% bribe or offer special favors 4) 49% threaten to close – only 2% do. 5) 82% hire unionbusters.
