govspeedGov. Mark Sanford has received so much grief for his extensive flights in state planes for his personal use, he obviously figured that it was a better idea to take to the Palmetto State roadways. But, he wants to be there fast, so the driver had a lead foot and got pulled over.

An official says the Highway Patrol stopped embattled South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s car for speeding this week but the trooper let the politician’s protective detail driver go without a ticket.

South Carolina Department of Public Safety Director Mark Keel on Wednesday confirmed the stop.

He says the trooper did not cite a State Law Enforcement Agent but that a ticket now will be issued.

Consider that you’re just some dude speeding along and an officer pulls you over. What are the chances you get a ticket? If you’re the Governor, none, apparently, unless the press starts making inquiries. Kind of reminds us of when former SCGOP executive director Jay W. Ragley was making his way up I-26 to an event in Newberry in the state party’s SUV, and managed to get out of it with a warning. Guess some people are just “more equal” than others.
